Devices (admin)

Everyone in the organisation can see the device list. The following actions are restricted to Admin role holders.

Renaming devices

Both client devices and desktop devices support renaming.

  1. Open Devices from the sidebar.
  2. Click the name on the row you want to rename.
  3. Type the new name and confirm.

The new name appears across the application immediately, including in the controller, the desktop device's linked-device list, and on any display that is currently connected.

Linking and unlinking

A desktop device runs the Vox101 desktop app: users sign in on it and start or stop sessions, just like in the web portal. A client device drives a display (subtitles, mirror, chroma-key) and has no sign-in of its own.

Linking a client device to a desktop device makes it follow that desktop automatically: as soon as a session is started on the desktop device, the linked client device joins it and starts displaying. Use this when the displays in a room should always show whatever session the room's desktop is running.

Linking

  1. Open the desktop device.
  2. Click Link device and pick a client device from the list.
  3. Confirm. The client device is now linked and will join every session started on this desktop device.

A client device may be linked to at most one desktop device at a time. Linking a device that is already linked elsewhere is rejected with a clear error.

Unlinking

  1. Open the desktop device.
  2. Click the client device's chip to remove it.

The client device stops joining sessions automatically and can be linked to a different desktop device later.

What admin actions are not exposed here

  • Registering a new device is performed by the device itself on first boot (it self-registers with a generated device code and is initially unassigned). Once it appears in your organisation's list, you can rename it and link it.
  • Deleting a device is not available from this page. If a device needs to be permanently removed, contact Vox101 support.

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely cause
Rename has no effect after refresh.Network error suppressed the save. Try again; check the browser console for details.
Link fails with "Failed to link device".The target client device is already linked to another desktop device, or it belongs to a different organisation.
A device shows as Disconnected during a session.The device's process is not running, or it cannot reach the Vox101 hub at /hub/device.
